Keep Frozen. Store in your freezer until you are ready to defrost and consume. Once thawed, keep refrigerated and consume within 3 days.
Thawing Instructions
You can defrost IVP Tilapia fillets in the refrigerator overnight or in a container under running tap water for between 20 to 30 minutes until defrosted.
Serving Suggestions
Tilapia can be grilled, baked, broiled, sauteed, pan fried, or steamed. Tilapia is best served with jasmine rice, corn casserole, baked French fries, zucchini fritters, roasted cauliflower, au gratin potatoes, coleslaw, or broccolini and tortellini salad.
Blackened Tilapia Fillets
Ingredients
- 4 6-ounce tilapia fillets
- 4 tablespoons paprika
- 1 ½ tablespoon onion powder
- 1 ½ pinch garlic powder
- 1 ½ teaspoon ground white pepper
- 1 ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1 ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper, or to taste
- 1 ½ teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 ½ tablespoon kosher salt, or to taste
- 1 ½ tablespoon vegetable oil
- 4 slices white bread
- 1 ½ teaspoon dried thyme
- 1-2 lemons, cut into wedges
- ¾ teaspoon celery seed
Cooking Method
- In a small bowl or jar with a lid, make the spice blend. Mix together the paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, white pepper, black pepper, cayenne pepper, oregano, thyme, celery seed and kosher salt. Coat the fish fillets with the spice mixture and allow to sit at room temperature for no longer than 30 minutes.
- Heat a heavy skillet over high heat. Add oil, and heat until it is almost smoking. Place the fillets in the pan, and cook for about 3 minutes per side, or until fish is opaque and can be flaked with a fork. Remove from the pan.
- Serve this dish with rice, fries, potato wedges, or a selection of vegetables of your choice. Pour the pan juices over your vegetables or starch and squeeze lemon juice all over.
